About The English Classroom AB

About The English Classroom

The English Classroom AB is a Swedish edtech company based in Kalmar, founded and run by Jennifer Gardner, a former history teacher. We make ready-to-teach English lessons for teachers who are not native speakers or who simply do not have the time to plan from scratch. More than 7,000 teachers in over 80 countries have registered on the platform, and since 2024 our resources have been used across UNRWA schools through a ten-year partnership supporting education for Palestine refugee children.

Every lesson is built around a sustainability theme based on content from the UN Sustainable Development Goals, so students learn English whilst engaging with the ideas they will need for the world they are growing into.

Our mission

We want English education to be available to students and teachers whatever their circumstances. English opens doors to work, study and collaboration across borders, and the teachers who provide it deserve materials that are complete, well made and affordable.

The corpus

The English Classroom corpus is a single-authored, CEFR-graded library of 600 lessons spanning A1 to C2 (100 lessons per level, organised into 10 courses per level). Each lesson includes:

  • a full slide presentation (SCORM, HTML or PDF)

  • step-by-step teacher notes keyed to each slide (PDF)

  • homework and follow-up activities (PDF)

  • native British English audio, with more than 2,500 short studio-recorded clips

The whole library was written and recorded by one author, so it is consistent in structure, register and level across all six CEFR bands. There is no third-party material in it, and The English Classroom AB holds all rights.

Why we are sharing data on Mozilla Data Collective

The corpus was written for classrooms, and it has spent years doing that job. It is also a rare thing in language data: a large, clean, level-graded set of English teaching text and aligned speech, with clear provenance and a single rights holder.

We are sharing it here because we would rather it be used openly and on fair terms than sit behind an exclusive deal with one buyer. Our goals are to:

  • make high-quality, CEFR-aligned English teaching data available to researchers and developers working on language learning, speech and education

  • see the corpus contribute to tools that help learners and teachers, particularly in under-resourced settings

  • be compensated fairly for work that took years to produce, so we can keep supporting the teachers who use it

If you are working on something where this data could help, we would like to hear about it.
