Size: 12.04 GB
Studio-quality, single-speaker Chichewa narration of the Bible, taken from the Chichewa recordings released by the BibleTTS project (a derivative of the Open.Bible recordings published by Biblica). CLEAR Global segmented those chapter-level recordings into per-verse clips and force-aligned them against the Chichewa Bible text, producing 45,728 clips totalling 116.1 hours at 24 kHz mono. Each clip ships with its verse transcript, duration and an alignment confidence score. Clips are published in four splits: train (40,150 clips, 100.81 h), dev (249 clips, 0.76 h), test (117 clips, 0.38 h) and other (5,212 clips, 14.15 h).

The audio derives from the publicly released Open.Bible recordings (Biblica) via the BibleTTS corpus. There is one narrator, who is not identified anywhere in this release, and no personal data is included. The released Bible text is public domain.
Intended Use
Research and development of text-to-speech and automatic speech recognition systems for Chichewa.
The Chichewa subset of BibleTTS was published as unaligned chapter-level audio, a derivative of the Open.Bible recordings released by Biblica. This release is the CLEAR Global verse-level segmentation of those recordings: each chapter was split into per-verse clips and force-aligned against the Chichewa Bible text.

score is the forced aligner's confidence for the clip (an average per-token log-probability; negative, higher is better, length-normalised). The train, dev and test splits are the cleaned set: only clips with score > -45 and no numerals in the transcript. The other split holds the clips excluded by those filters and is not intended for TTS training as-is. Every clip is published in exactly one split.

The recordings are derived from the Open.Bible project by Biblica via the BibleTTS corpus and are redistributed here as a derivative work. Verse-level segmentation and alignment were carried out by CLEAR Global, continuing the Masakhane BibleTTS collaboration. Single-speaker Bible-domain data: not representative of everyday spoken Chichewa. Provided as-is for research and development.
